15 Tips On Confidence
Hello Deep Divers,
If you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know that I write a lot. I also make meditations, social media content, photos, videos, and all sorts of cool stuff.
—> But it wasn’t always like that.
I’ll never forget what it felt like when I was a child. Throughout school, I was told that I was really, really slow—and it crushed my confidence. I grew up in Canada, where they do standardized tests every three years. I still remember being in grade six, and the teacher calling my parents into the school to tell them, “Your son reads at a grade one level.”
Even my classmates told me how slow I was, and I dealt with it by acting like I didn’t care or by cracking jokes. But I was still terrified that a teacher would call on me in class to answer a question. I hated it so much that I would fake illnesses to skip school, which only pushed me further behind.
These experiences shattered my confidence, and they were reinforced over many years. But now, there are many people who see me differently.
As it turns out, I was dyslexic—which went undiagnosed until I was probably 30.
I learned that words just didn’t stick to my brain the way they did for others—but images did, and so did feelings and emotions. And as a photographer, having a visual IQ is not a weakness; it’s a superpower. And as a meditation instructor and a community builder, feeling energy is a superpower too… whether or not I could grasp words in the same way as everyone else.
Today’s audio class on confidence was a lot of fun to make, and I want you to know that when I talk about confidence, I’m speaking from a place of deep empathy.
Be kind with yourself, and remember that everyone has their own unique journey with this topic.
Note: An important part of learning is engagement and a key way to engage is by asking questions. If you have any questions about this class (or any of my others), I encourage you to click here for my "Ask Darius" link and ask away.
