Do You Know Your Soul's Mission?

Dear Artist,

The world feels overwhelming at times. We’re bombarded with expectations, pressure, and constant information about what it means to live a meaningful life.

As a result, a lot of the decisions we make aren’t fully ours. They’re heavily influenced by culture, family, society—forces outside ourselves—making it too easy to lose ourselves in the overwhelm.

It’s far too easy to live a life that’s not truly yours.

This is something I’ve experienced firsthand. I vividly remember a moment in my life when, on paper, I had everything—a fancy job, an expensive car, an ideal relationship. I remember sitting in my car behind the advertising agency where I worked, frustrated and angry, yelling at the top of my lungs.

I was like, “How did I even get here? Whose life is this?!”

That was when I realized the life I had built wasn’t truly mine. And I was terrified I would feel this way until the end of my life.

So much has changed since then, but over the years I’ve still said yes to projects and relationships that weren’t aligned with my highest self. Sometimes it was a result of people pleasing, other times it was a result of comparison or chasing trends. Whether I was dealing with fear, self-doubt, or whatever else, I think it ultimately it boils down to being unclear about my soul’s mission and who I really am.

This almost happened again last week when I was invited to Apple’s headquarters. I share more about this story in the MediClass below. I lost my bearings, and out of fear I nearly said yes to a whole bunch of misaligned work. I caught myself just in time, and was able to refocus on the work I’m meant to do on this planet and return to my soul’s mission.

You might be wondering, “Darius, how do you know what your soul’s mission is?”

Great question—I love when you ask great questions.

If you’re interested in going deeper on this topic and perhaps learning more about your own soul’s mission, I’ve created a MediClass below. A MediClass is a lesson taught through a short story, a teaching, and a guided meditation. Each MediClass also includes a journal prompt to deepen and integrate the experience.

If you complete the MediClass and journal prompts, I’d love to hear about your experience. Let me know if you discover something new about your soul. :)

  • 1:05 - Story: when I almost said YES to what should have been a NO

  • 5:57 - Important note before today’s meditation

  • 8:03 - Meditation: asking an impossible question

  • 15:31 - Post-meditation reflection

  • 16:40 - Four questions (that are more connected than they seem)

Take your time with the MediClass, then dive deeper into yourself with the journal prompt at the end (also listed below). You might be surprised by what you discover.

Journal Prompt:

Here are the 4 questions I shared in the MediClass above. If you skipped ahead to this section, I strongly recommend listening to the audio before diving in.

  1. Where in your life do you feel the most joy?

  2. What moments make you feel most alive?

  3. Where is energy naturally flowing in your life right now?

  4. If “success” and “failure” didn’t exist, where would you allow yourself to PLAY?

Be gentle with yourself, and take your time.

Don’t forget to have fun exploring these questions.

It takes time.

If you feel like you’re still figuring out your soul’s mission, that’s totally okay. Clarity doesn’t always come in an instant, and it might help to think of it as its own journey.

Give yourself a chance to explore; the more you explore, the more aligned you’ll feel with your soul’s mission. Ya feel me?

Lastly, I usually ask one question for community shares, but I’m really curious so today I’m asking three:

  1. Did you find the journalling prompt easy to answer, or was it super challenging?

  2. Did any of your answers make you feel excited and/or nervous?

  3. Do you have any questions that help guide you back to your soul’s mission (AKA your north star) when you’re feeling lost?

If you’re open to sharing, message me on Signal or comment below with your answer to any (or all) of the above. I love hearing from you!

Big love,

D
